Dear Moody College of Business Undergraduate Students,

On Tuesday, March 31, the University sent students an email with grading policy modifications for courses in the Spring 2020 semester. In that policy, each college may determine that some of their students, and/or some of their courses, are not eligible for the grading policy modification.

After much thoughtful discussion by our leadership team, the Moody College of Business will allow undergraduate business majors and non-business majors to request the grading policy modification for any business courses that were intended to be in-person throughout Spring 2020, but were changed to remote instruction as a result of COVID-19. Students taking any business courses in a 100% online format are not eligible for the grading policy modification.

Below are the revised University deadlines for dropping with a W and resolving incomplete grades, and Moody College of Business instructions should you choose to request a grade modification for any of your classes.

For Moody College of Business undergraduate business majors and non-business majors taking business courses:

  1. Faculty will grade students as usual during the semester and submit the final letter grade (A, B, C, D, F) earned by the student to the Registrar's Office using the standard grade submission process.
  2. Undergraduate students enrolled in courses that were intended to be in-person throughout Spring 2020, but were changed to remote instruction as a result of COVID-19, can then request to have one or more of their letter grades changed to the equivalent Pass (P), Emergency D (ED), or Emergency F (EF). If no grade changes are desired, there is no action for a student to take and their letter grade will remain as submitted by faculty.
    1. For grade change requests, letter grades would be converted as:
      1. C or better to a grade of P (Pass);
      2. D with a letter grade to ED (Emergency D); or
      3. F with a letter grade to EF (Emergency F).
    2. Grades of P, ED, and EF will not be factored into the student's grade point average.
    3. A grade of P will provide academic credit and will count toward curricular, major, minor, academic progress, and graduation requirements.
    4. A grade of ED will also count toward such requirements provided a grade of C is not required in the student’s curriculum.
  3. Students must submit a request to convert to P/ED/EF to the Moody College of Business Office of Student Services at studentservices@louisiana.edu AFTER final grades are posted and no later than 12 a.m. on May 20, 2020. In the email request, please include the course prefix/number/section/CRN#/and professor’s name for each course you are requesting a change from the letter grade you earned to a P/ED/EF. Students should not send grade modification requests to faculty or other offices, as delays will occur in processing your request.
  4. The Moody College of Business Office of Students Services will process the request and seek additional approvals from the Department head over the course, Dean over the course, and Dean over the student’s major.
  5. Students should receive email notification from the Registrar’s Office when the request for the grade modification submitted by the Office of Student Services is processed. Students should monitor their grades and alert the Office of Student Services at studentservices@louisiana.edu if the requested changes have not occurred in 3 business days.

Last Day to Drop with a W

The last day to drop an undergraduate or graduate course with a grade of W during the Spring 2020 semester is the last day of classes, May 1.

Incomplete Grades for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

In an effort to provide students with sufficient time to resolve incomplete grades, the University will extend the deadline to complete courses assigned the grade of “I” as follows:

  • Last day to change an Incomplete grade earned in Fall 2019 or Winter Intersession 2019: Nov. 5, 2020
  • Last day to change an Incomplete grade earned in Spring 2020: Dec. 14, 2020
  • In exceptional cases, a dean may request an extension of this deadline for a student or group of students when other modifications to grading policy do not sufficiently accommodate the students’ situation.

If you have any questions, please contact our Office of Student Services at studentservices@louisiana.edu.

Sincerely,

Geralyn McClure Franklin, Ph.D.
