Computer Recommendations
The B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration does not have specific requirements for which personal computers students use.
However, we do have recommendations. These recommendations are intended to help students and parents make better purchasing decisions, reduce software compatibility issues in class and on campus, and give faculty and university IT a clearer standard when supporting student devices.
If you choose a device that does not meet these specifications, that is fine - it just may increase software compatability issues and decrease the effectiveness of on-campus support (note that this page was created by a guy who refuses to give up his Macbook).
Recommended specifications:
- Windows Laptop/Desktop - To ensure the best learning experience in B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration, we strongly recommend a Windows-based device. All of the labs and classrooms on campus use Windows-based devices.
- Processor Recommended: Intel Core i7, Intel Core Ultra 5 or 7, or AMD Ryzen
- RAM Memory Recommended: 16 GB or larger
- Disk Space Recommended: 512 GB or larger
- Operating System Windows 11
Note that the following are not supported by University systems and personnel; they can work satisfactorily for many students, but we cannot guarantee compatability:
-
Not supported: Windows 11 S Mode, Windows 10, macOS as primary device, ChromeOS, iPadOS, Android tablets
- Important: Windows 11 in S Mode is not supported. Some lower-cost laptops ship with Windows 11 S Mode enabled, which only allows apps from the Microsoft Store. Many business applications required for coursework cannot be installed in S Mode. Students should purchase a laptop with a full version of Windows 11
Please note that if a student cannot complete an assignment satisfactorily because they are using a computer or software that does not meet these recommended specifications, then that may affect the student's grade. It is the student's responsibility to submit work that meets faculty expectations. There are computer labs on campus with computers that meet these requirements that students can readily use if their personal computers are not adequate for coursework. (For example....Please do NOT submit work in Numbers when given an assignment in Excel; please do NOT submit work in Pages when given an assignment in Word.)
These recommendations are current as of Summer 2026. We will try to update this information periodically.
