The B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration, the Insurance and Risk Management Program and the UL Risk Management and Insurance Society hosted Risk Manager in Residence Kristy Coleman February 26 through February 28.

Coleman, who is a certified risk manager, serves as Senior Manager of Risk Management at Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia. Turner, a Time Warner company, is a global entertainment, sports and news company. Through this residency at UL Lafayette, Coleman shared her valuable experience in insurance and risk management with students in class and was a featured guest speaker at a luncheon for students, alumni and guests.

Mary Broussard, president of the Risk Management and Insurance Society, says, “Although it was not the first time that I experienced having a Risk Manager in Residence, I found that Ms. Kristy had the greatest impact on me because I learned so much from her. I thought she did a wonderful job showing each student how their interests could fit into a Risk Management career. She made me realize how diverse and fulfilling a job in Risk Management can be. Through Dr. Ferguson's [coordination] efforts, we are able to understand the various aspects of Risk Management.” Dr. Bill Ferguson is the Purvis Endowed Chair of Insurance & Risk Management and coordinator of the UL Lafayette Insurance and Risk Management Program since 1995.

The UL Lafayette Insurance and Risk Management program is honored to have been selected for the seventeenth time to be a host university for the Risk Manager in Residence program sponsored by the Spencer Educational Foundation arm of the Risk Management & Insurance Society (RIMS). This program was created in 2000 to bring risk managers into the classroom so that students can hear their stories and learn from experts in the field.
