For the 2019-2020 academic year, Amyriah Campbell is the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration President for the Student Government Association. Sydney Babin, Jasmine Hebert, Sarah Vice, and Jake Benoit are the Moody College of Business Senators.

We interviewed Amyriah, Sydney, and Jasmine to find out more about how the Student Government Association can improve a student's experience at UL Lafayette and Moody College of Business.

What is the purpose of the Student Government Association?
Amyriah: SGA works with the students, staff, and community to meet the needs of the students on our campus.

What should students expect from the Student Government Association?
Amyriah: The main thing that students can expect from SGA is for us to continue to be advocates for them. That is our main goal and purpose.

What do the Moody College of Business Student Government Association President and Senators do for Moody Business students?
Amyriah: Myself, the senators, and our College Dean all work together to decide on a project that will best benefit our college. We are also a part of the STEP Council, so when there is an issue in any of our STEP labs the students can come to us and voice their concerns. We will then bring it to the rest of the council and advocate for the students in our college.

What is your hometown?
Amyriah: I was born and raised in the great city of New Orleans, LA
Sydney: Watson, Louisiana
Jasmine: Baton Rouge, Louisiana

What is your major?
Amyriah: Management
Sydney: Marketing
Jasmine: Management (Minor in Modern Dance)

Why did you run for the Student Government Association?
Amyriah: I wanted to run for SGA because I love helping others. I love being able to listen to the problems and issues that the students are facing and working with the other members of the senate to come to a solution. I love being able to advocate for our students.
Sydney: While a lot things are behind the scenes, I loved that SGA does have an impact on the school and a voice for the students who want change or improvements to happen.
Jasmine: I originally ran for SGA as a Freshman Senator (last year) because I saw a need for Freshmen representation within SGA. This year, I decided to run as a College of Business Senator because I grew to love SGA, the impact that SGA made on campus, and everyone that I met within the organization. I also absolutely love Moody College of Business. It truly is an honor to represent such a great college. After all, no one knows what the students want and need, better than the students!

Why did you want to be in a leadership position?
Amyriah: Before coming into my leadership positions I had a great mentor who prepared me for leadership. That preparation that I received really inspired me to take on the leadership roles that I currently have.

Tell us about your role as the Moody Business Student Government Association President.
Amyriah: As the SGA College of Business President I work with the College of Business senators and the Dean of our College to decide on a college project. I am also a member of the finance committee within SGA, where we maintain the budget. As the College of Business president for SGA I am also responsible for attending President’s Meetings with the other SGA College Presidents, the Big Three, the Dean of Students, and President Savoie. Lastly, like the other members of the Senate I vote on legislation that is presented.

Tell us about your role as a Moody Business Student Government Association Senator.
Sydney: Currently, I have been a Senator for 3 years now. The Spring semester of my Freshman year I filled the Business Senator vacancy and I’ve been a Senator ever since. I love being a voice for the College of Business students because there is always room for improvement in our college!
Jasmine: As an SGA senator, my role includes simply being a voice for our student body. Senators take the questions and concerns of our peers, and turn them into projects and solutions. Our college Dean, Professors, and leaders count on us to tell them exactly what they can do for us as students.

How can students contact the Moody Business Student Government Association President or Senators?
Amyriah: The students can contact me through email at amyriah.campbell1@louisiana.edu or sga@louisiana.edu.

Is there anything else you would like to be included?
Amyriah: I am extremely excited about this semester, even though we are in trying and difficult times; I know we as Cajuns will push through and finish strong!
